Before you put honey in a lunchbox, read this

Five things parents ask us about Just Kids Honey sachets, answered plainly. Single-serve Western Australian honey, TA10, independently tested, from a family that has kept bees for five generations.

Jump to the questions

1. One sachet is one serve, and the jar stays home

Each sachet holds a single 10g serve. Tear the top, squeeze it onto a sandwich, crackers or yoghurt, and the empty sachet goes back in the lunchbox.

No jar, no spoon, no lid left off on the bench. The portion is decided before it leaves the house, not by a seven-year-old with a squeeze bottle.

Less mess, not no mess. It is honey. But a sachet wipes clean in a way a jar never does.

2. "Tested honey" means a lab looked at it, not that we say so

Every batch is independently tested and verified as TA10 honey.

Plain words on what that number is: Total Activity is a laboratory measure of the honey itself. It is not a claim about your child's health, and we do not make one. We publish it so you know exactly what you are buying and who checked it. Read what Total Activity is.

3. Read the ingredients panel next to the spread it replaces

Just One Ingredient. 100% Pure Western Australian Honey. That's it. No concentrates. No syrups. No artificial colours. No artificial flavours. No preservatives.

Pick up the chocolate spread or the jam in your pantry and count the lines on the back. That is the comparison we are happy to make, and it is the only one we will make.

We are not going to tell you honey is better for your child. Honey is a sweet food and should be treated like one. What we can say is that it is one ingredient, you can read where it came from, and the serve size is fixed. On taste: a naturally sweet snack kids genuinely enjoy eating.

4. Pick the pack that matches your school weeks

One sachet a school day. The packs line up with how a term runs.

  • 10 sachets, $16.99. Two school weeks. The try-it pack. ($1.70 a sachet)
  • 20 sachets, $29.99. Four weeks. ($1.50 a sachet)
  • 30 sachets, $39.99. Six weeks, about the stretch to the mid-term break. ($1.33 a sachet)
  • 100 sachets, $135. The term pack: two kids, every school day, for a ten-week term. ($1.35 a sachet)

Orders over $120 ship free, so the term pack ships free.

Honey is not for babies under 12 months. Do not give honey, including these sachets, to a child under 12 months of age.

5. It comes from Western Australian native forests

100% Pure Western Australian Honey, 100% traceable WA origin, handcrafted in Western Australia. Our family has kept bees here for five generations. The sachets are honey in a format that survives a school bag.

The questions we get most

What age can my child have honey?

Not before 12 months. After that, honey is a sweet food like any other, and how much and how often is your call.

Is Just Kids Honey safe for a child with allergies?

It is a single-ingredient honey, free from dairy, gluten and nuts. If your child has a known allergy to honey, bee products or pollen, check with your doctor or allergist before offering it.

Do schools allow it?

Most do, but policies differ, so check yours. Each sachet is sealed and labelled, so the school can see exactly what it is.

Will the sachets leak or go off in a hot school bag?

The sachets are sealed and do not need refrigeration. Honey keeps at room temperature. Keep the box out of direct sun at home and check the best-before date on the pack.

What does TA10 mean?

The batch tested at 10 or above on the Total Activity scale in an independent laboratory test. It is a measure of the honey, not a health claim.
